First of all, this is not a real TIME magazine cover design. This was a project created to practice the enhanced capabilities of the new photoshop. When exercising skills within an updated application, there is a learning curve – when practicing those skills with that curve it’s important to produce something current, something real to motivate the production of final high resolution art.
Design:
Three concept sketches were produced to exhibit headline news, while at the same time display current imagery that might possibly find it’s way onto the cover of TIME magazine cover design. Photograph were researched and the strongest imagery made it through to the next stage. Low resolution concepts were then generated for review and one was selected for high resolution production.
Production:
Two images were purchased online and then each one was meticulously clipped out to be manipulated for this magazine cover design. The capitol was isolated to manipulate the darkness of the sky and water to provide a moody and dark background. The business man’s arm and briefcase were also isolated for graphic enhancement, but they were given custom highlights. This was done to visually pull the briefcase forward and make legible the addition of the word votes which was Photoshopped onto the case.
